When I give a workshop or work with a client on book marketing, I include live events in the winning equation. Although putting words on paper is a solitary endeavor, being an author nowadays is all about connecting to a worldwide network of authors and readers. It is by leaving your hideaway and meeting people in person that you build a loyal fan base and grow your professional network. Events such as LIT UP Orange County are a good example and great opportunity.
Because we’re in Southern California, we’ve decided to do it justice and explore its exquisite and diverse literary world. After all, not only it inspired memorable books or scenes, but it’s home to some of the most successful contemporary authors. Dean Koontz lives here and Eckhart Tolle allegedly travels to our sunny shores to write his inspirational books.
Today we’re delighted to introduce you to the literary salon LIT UP Orange County, hosted by Maddie Margarita, who is also a writer and head of programming with the Southern California Writers’ Association.
LIT UP Orange County is a monthly conversation with Orange County readers and writers. The event takes place from 7pm to 9pm at Bardot Cafe in Tustin and brings in front of an eager and responsive audience three authors in different genres. Maddie does a great job as a moderator by bringing to the table well-thought questions and a keen sense of humor. At LIT UP Orange, fantastic writing and fun go hand in hand.
LIT UP Orange County is currently accepting submissions from local authors interested in sharing their work with Orange County readers and writers. Submissions should be fiction or memoir, 6-8 double-spaced pages, and engage their audience. Interested writers please contact @Madeline Tighe Margarita on Facebook for more detail
Since a video speaks more than a thousand words, check out this video of the August 2019 LIT UP Orange edition and decide if you’re going to send your submission or not. Also enjoy the amazing Donna Kolling Lear, Carl Vonderau, and Stewart Hoffman reading excerpts from their novels.
If you are a writers’ association group or association or run author events in SoCal and would like to be featured on our website, shoot us an email at contact (at) selfpublishingmastery.com. We’re looking forward to getting to know you!
