Chicago Spring Fling is a three-day hybrid writing conference hosted by Chicago-North Romance Writers featuring masterclasses, workshops and webinars for published and unpublished writers, keynote speeches, pitch appointments with editors and agents, networking, a silent auction, open to the public book signing/ reader event as well as an online bookstore and a gala ball. It’s happening April 28-30 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago and online.

Keynote Speakers

Vanessa Riley is an award-winning author of historical fiction and historical romance, showcasing the hidden histories of women of color and emphasizing strong sisterhoods and dazzling multicultural communities. Her novels pull heartstrings, elicit laughs, and share insights into the diverse history of the Georgian, Regency, and Victorian eras. Vanessa is president of Regency Fiction Writers, a member of NINC, the Historical Novel Society, and on the Board of Directors of Christian Book Lovers Retreat. She’s an avid baker who loves creating her Trinidadian grandma’s cake recipes. You can find Vanessa writing on her southern porch with proper amounts of caffeine.

 

Kit Rocha is the pseudonym for co-writing team Donna Herren and Bree Bridges. After penning dozens of paranormal novels, novellas and stories as Moira Rogers, they branched out into gritty, sexy dystopian romance. The Beyond series has appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, has been nominated for best erotic romance in the RT Reviewer’s Choice award five times, and won in 2013 and 2015. Their most recent adventure is partnering with Tor to launch their critically acclaimed Mercenary Librarians series.

Conference Masterclasses (included in conference fee)

Jade Lee/Kathy Lyons: The War of Art — Are you an Artist? What does that mean? A master’s class that examines the struggle to write and how that defines your writing, your career, and yourself. Including nuts and bolts techniques to take advantage of the struggle.

Jen Prokop: Ted Lasso as Romance – We’ll discuss the show, what tropes work and why, and break it down as a romance

Elizabeth Essex: Royal Navy Primer — A two-hour masterclass designed to familiarize the writer with the organization, men and ships of the Nelson-Era British Royal Navy. From the bowsprit to the taffrail, and from Admirals to Topmen, a ROYAL NAVY Primer will cover the basics of manpower, ship power and tactics, as well as the sources, vocabulary and research needed to make an author comfortable writing any shipboard romance.
